I have been remiss in maintaining my blog posting. It’s not that I am not finding relatives, but rather that until I am certified I am unable to publish anything I hope to use in my portfolio.

I have been practicing writing about the Langley line. If you’ve read my blogs you may remember Jane Langley. Jane’s daughter Ada Jones was my third great grandmother.
I was able to discover that Ada Jones had come to the states from England with both her parents George and Jane (Langley) Jones and her three brothers, George M., Alfred L., and Walter. Jane was about five years old and Walter the youngest was about a year old. Before the family boarded the ship to America the two youngest children were baptized in Liverpool on 7 March 1844. It must have been a very difficult voyage for Jane with four children under the age of five and one most likely still breastfeeding.

The George Jones family arrived in New York from Liverpool on the 22 April 1844, on the Ship Franconia. The were found living in Brooklyn at 308 Water Street on 3 May 1844 when their son Alfred died of inflammation of the throat. Only five days later 18 month old Walter died also from Inflammation of the throat. Both were buried in Potters Field. I still have no idea when George Jones or Jane Langley Jones died. They did appear in the 1850 US census in New York, Ward 7, with George M., Ada, and Catherine, who was born in 1848. I have not found Catherine in any other records. The last child attributed to George and Jane Jones is Mary Jane who was born about 1851 and married James Quinne in Hudson New Jersey. Mary J. Quinne died in  1921.

I just completed my ProGen Study Group in December. That was 15 months of intense work in writing different types of genealogical reports and learning to review our peers work. The study group I was teamed up with were all great. We each ended stronger and more polished in our writing skills. I learned a lot from each member. Thanks: Judith, Mary, Dewayne, Terri, Carla, June, and Robyn. Also a big thanks to Linda and Stephanie who were our facilitators and mentors.

Doing ProGen was definitely a great choice. Last month I also completed another pro bono research for one of my nephew’s family line that is completely unrelated to me. It was a fun challenge.

Now it is time to get going on my KDP for my Portfolio. The KDP, Kinship Determination Project is a large part of the portfolio I will be submitting to BCG. I do have it started but I really need to tell a good story with this.
I have mailed in my preliminary application to BCG and will be notified soon that I am officially on the clock. I will have one year to get all the elements for my portfolio written and assembled for submitting.

This year my blog will try to keep me focused on the journey to certification. Keeping in mind that I will not be writing about my discoveries on any of the reports I am preparing for certification but more of the journey itself. I’m hoping that I will be doing more client work this year. I’m still in need of a good case study. If you are looking for a researcher on a family member you would like to know more about.
